The FPGA Lock Core is a robust yet compact security solution designed to prevent IP theft and counterfeiting in FPGA applications. At its core, it utilizes the Microchip ATSHA204A hardened crypto authentication IC to establish a secure link between the FPGA and the hardware. By engaging in a challenge-response process, it safeguards against unauthorized access by confirming the presence of a correctly programmed ATSHA204A device. This process involves generating a random 256-bit challenge, verifying unique IDs, and executing SHA256 hashes.

Integration is hassle-free, requiring just one FPGA pin for bidirectional communication with the ATSHA204A. It features a minimal logic footprint and operates via a simple open-drain interface. The core provides functionality transparency with its VHDL implementation, helping clients ensure seamless deployment and verification through well-documented testbenches.

The FPGA Lock Core is versatile and compatible with various Intel and Xilinx devices—making it suitable for applications in sectors like defense and medical where security is paramount. It is available in conjunction with a Key Writer core, facilitating the programming of custom keys into the ATSHA204A, and implementing this security measure efficiently into any product lifecycle.
